The Mathematics Department has a tradition of individual excellence in publications and research, which has been strengthened by the appointment of 7 new faculty since 2000. Faculty members actively participate in national and international research conferences and workshops and bring numerous research visitors to the department every year. Currently in research output the Department is in the top three in its category among Ontario universities as ranked by Canadian University Publications.
The research interests of faculty members of the Department are in the areas of:
- Statistical Analysis and Computation Methods and Stochastic Models
- Symmetry/Integrability Analysis and Computer Algebra for Nonlinear Differential Equations
- Computational Methods for Variational Problems
- Analysis and Simulation of Discrete, Spatially-extended Dynamical Systems
- Computational Algebra and Number Theory
- Computer Algebra Algorithms and Parallel Computing
- Computational Topics in General Relativity, Gauge Theory, Classical Mechanics
Students will find a lively intellectual environment and friendly atmosphere where they will have one-on-one interaction with Graduate Faculty members and exposure to a wide range of research fields, including a number of overlapping areas of special strength in Statistical Analysis, Computational Analysis of Differential Equations and Discrete Dynamical Systems, Computational Algebra and Number Theory, Computational Topics in Mathematical Physics.
