About Us
The Department of Mathematics consists of 15 faculty (including a SHARCNET Research Chair), 1 Mathematics Development Programs Manager, 2 lecturers, and 2 administrative assistants. Our unique and innovative MICA program (Mathematics Integrated with Computers and Applications, B.Sc. Honours), with its emphasis on concepts, technology, and applicability, is at the forefront of successful integration of technology into Mathematics curricula. We also offer a modern and vibrant M.Sc. in Mathematics and Statistics.
The Department is a pioneer in the integration of technology in its programs and in forming mathematics teachers. Most courses have a compulsory computer lab component and we offer a number of high profile and selective concurrent and consecutive education programs attracting some of the best students. The Department also offers Minor Programs in Mathematics for future teachers as well as courses needed to declare a second teachable in mathematics for prospective school teachers. In addition, a number of attractive combined majors programs are available (Mathematics-Physics, Mathematics-Computer Science, Mathematics-Economics, Mathematics-Geography, Mathematics-Music, etc...).
The members of the Department publish an impressive number of quality peer reviewed research papers and regularly deliver invited talks at international, national and local conferences. Several are members of editorial boards of international journals and most have established and recognized research programs and external funding. Every year, the department hosts many international visiting scholars.
