Major Instrument Facilities

600 NMR

Bruker Avance AV 600 Digital NMR spectrometer with a 14.1 Tesla Ultrashield Plus magnet.  The system is equipped for triple resonance and includes a BBO Z-gradient ATMA probehead which covers the tuning range 15N through 31P with proton decoupling, and an inverse triple resonance gradient TXI probe for observation of protons while decoupling 13C and 15N.  The system is also capable of solids observation with a broadband CP/MAS probehead.  All probes have full VT capability.

400 NMR

Bruker Avance III HD 400 Digital NMR spectrometer with a 9.4 Tesla Ascend Magnet.  The system is equipped for double resonance and includes a BBFO Z-gradient ATMA probehead which covers the tuning range 15N through 31P and is also 19F capable. The system is equipped for VT. The 400 system run in a Microsoft Windows 7 Professional environment using Bruker TOPSPIN 3.2 PL5 software for data acquisition and analysis. A TOPSPIN data processing workstation is also part of the NMR facility in "Cairns Family" Biosciences Research Complex.

300 NMR

Bruker Avance AV 300 Digital NMR spectrometer with a 7.05 Tesla Ultrashield magnet. The system is equipped for double resonance and includes a BBFO Z-gradient ATMA probehead which covers the tuning range 15N through 31P and is also 19F capable. The system is equipped for VT. Both NMR systems run in a Microsoft Windows 7 Professional environment using Bruker TOPSPIN 2.1 PL6 software for data acquisition and analysis. A TOPSPIN data processing workstation is also part of the NMR facility in Mackenzie Chown Complex.

Mass Spectrometry

Kratos Concept 1S High Resolution E/B mass spectrometer with electron impact chemical ionization and fast atom bombardment sources, interfaced HP5890 capillary GC, home built dynamic FAB and particle beam HPLC interfaces; DART 32 bit data acquisition system run via a Sun Sparcstation 10 and Mach 3 software, with windows networking capability

HCT

Bruker HCT Plus Proteineer LC-MS with electrospray. This is interfaced with an Agilent 1100 series LC system with autosampler and diode array detector. A syringe pump is provided for direct sample infusion. The system is controlled by an XP workstation with a second workstation available for offline analysis.

Electron Spin Resonance Spectroscopy

Bruker Elexsys E580 pulsed and CW X-band (9 GHz) spectrometer; equipped with a liquid helium cryostat for variable temperature analysis from 5K to 300 K. The resonators and cryostat have light access for studying light-induced processes.

Electron Spin Resonance Spectroscopy

A multifrequency EPR unit operating at 9 GHz and 35 GHz setup for both continuous wave and direct detection time resolved EPR.  Light excitation is achieved by a pulsed Nd-YAG pumped OPO laser, which is tunable between 450  - 680 nm and 710-1200 nm.  The system response time is ca. 50 ns.The spectrometer is equipped with ENDOR and full high and low temperature VT with both liquid nitrogen and liquid helium capability.  Data collection is via a LeCroy digital scope.  The system is interfaced to a Linux PC console. Several PC's and a Mac are available with printers for data analysis.
