Gifts and Donations
We are extremely proud of the James A. Gibson Library's collections and services. The Library provides students, faculty and staff with access to over one million items, including more than 12,000 electronic journals, over 1,600 print journal subscriptions, over 660,000 microforms, thousands of maps and audio visual materials and an increasing range of reference resources in both print and electronic formats. In addition, the Library houses a unique collection of special materials pertaining to the Niagara Region.
As Brock University continues to expand its academic programs and research activities, your donation will help us meet the growing information needs of our students and faculty. Monetary donations as well as gifts of books and other materials enable us to enhance our collections and improve our services.
How to make a gift to the Library
Donations in any amount are welcome. For example, you may consider donating:
- $50 to purchase a book in the humanities or social sciences
- $200 to purchase a book in the sciences
- $1000 - $5000 to purchase a major dictionary, encyclopedia, or multi-volume set
Support for journals or electronic databases require larger donations so that we can invest the capital and pay for the annual subscription from the interest earned. For example:
- Interest from $10,000 each year would help to support Project Muse (a collection of over 150 humanities and social science journals) or the Oxford English Dictionary Online
- Interest from $20,000 each year would help to support ABI Inform (the foremost index/full text source for business journals)
- Interest from $50,000 each year would help to support Academic Search Premier (a multi-disciplinary database that offers access to over 4,700 full text journals, 3,600 peer-reviewed journals, and indexing and abstracts for all 8,300 journals)
- Interest from $100,000 each year would help to support Compustat (a database that contains fundamental and market data for over 11,000 US and Canadian companies)
Your gift to Brock University will be receipted for income tax purposes.
