The Training Advantage
If you know of students who could benefit from some practical training in the kinds of skills that would enhance their ability to establish rapport and work with people, for example a peer assistant in your office or a TA, the Foundations Series will be of help to them. If you teach a class which has content related to any of the aspects of leadership addressed in the practicum series (interpersonal communications, problem solving, conflict mediation, group work) your students could gain an advantage in their studies by getting the hands-on experience the Foundations Series provides, along with the content from your course. If the students in your classes typically aspire to develop careers in areas where those with people skills have the advantage, Foundations can give it to them. Students who have taken this training at Brock have gone on to be teachers, health care professionals, managers and executives in business. As our testimonials attest, many of them still credit their training as a significant element in their success.
Our participants find that the training is relevant and effective, and employers report that it makes a difference. The program is set up to accommodate a student's timetable and budget. We find that once students start in the series they typically continue on, the problem is getting them started because often students take a short sighted view about their future. A word of support for the value of this kind of training from a faculty member or someone in administration can go a long way in getting a student to look into what we can offer them.
