INTL 1F80: Intercultural Contact and Communication

INTC 1P80 serves as an introductory course to intercultural communication and explores  theories and cultural practices in various settings. 

Realizing that one cannot fully understand other cultures unless one understands one’s own culture, this course also investigates individual cultural identity by examining practices, beliefs, and values thus developing an awareness of how these are culturally influenced.  Focusing on the Canadian context, this course will foster communication skills needed to interact successfully with individuals from differing cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Lectures cover topics in culture, communication, and intercultural adaptation, and seminar readings include interdisciplinary texts that promote in-depth discussion about course themes.
