ABC program: Ghana Reading Week 2012

This program is not being offered this year. If you are interested in a similar experience, there are still spots open for the Namibia trip in May.

ABC Program: Ghana.

2012 will be the third year of the ABC:Ghana Program.

Ghana (formerly known as  Gold Coast), the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to gain independence, is located in Western Africa and is full of history and culture. The ABC program combines a unique blend of Academic, Business, and Cultural experiences. You will have the opportunity to learn about the history, politics and culture of Ghana; visit multinational and Canadian companies (including a cocoa processing company and visit to a cocoa farm); as well as tour Accra (the capital of Ghana), Cape Coast (transit point for the slave trade with slave castles, and bustling fishing village), and Kumasi (Ghana's second largest city and traditional home of the Ashanti people). Students in education will have the opportunity to visit schools and school boards to learn about education in Ghana.

Some of the highlights of the 2011 program were - the Canopy Walk at Kakum National Park (mostly undisturbed virgin rainforest) and a tour of the gold mines in Obuasi.
