International Pre-departure Risk Management Workshops
As a component in developing your international program, Brock University requires each program facilitator to arrange for a pre-departure orientation workshop, for the purpose of risk management. All participants (student, staff, faculty, or community members) who wish to take part in an international program organized through Brock University must complete a mandatory workshop.
The Pre-departure Orientation Workshop is typically one hour in length, and is comprised of the following:
· Cultural Awareness and Culture Shock
· Understand Expectations as a Brock Ambassador (Brock Student Code of Conduct)
· Mitigate risk (staying safe and healthy)
· Airport protocol
· Group Travel expectations
· General Traveling tips/advice
Materials provided in the workshop include: “Informing Yourself About….” Booklet, Up and Away Resource workbook (for programs longer than 1 month), handouts on insurance, remaining healthy, airport protocol, cultural awareness, emergency contact card, instructions on how to register with the Canadian government, etc.
The cost of the Up and Away Resource workbook is $4.00. Our Office will request transfer of the full amount from the program facilitator, and not from individual participants, when this workbook is required for the pre-departure.
