Visual Arts: The Niagara Art Scene
Faculty of Humanities
Visual Arts: The Niagara Art Scene
The visual arts are alive and well in St. Catharines. There are many opportunities for students to get involved and to experience the artwork of artists from around the world.
Rodman Hall Niagara's leading arts and exhibition centre. Now part of Brock University, Rodman Hall is located in a historic mansion that has been developed as one of Canada's leading art museums with the addition of large modern galleries. Rodman Hall features exhibitions, educational events and internship opportunities within its program of exhibitions that encompass contemporary and historical approaches.
The Department of Visual Arts Honours Students work in studios located at Rodman Hall. As well, they have the opportunity to exhibit the results of their intensive honours studio in a curated exhibition each spring.
The Niagara Artists' Company is St. Catharine's Artist-run centre, and was one of the first Artist-run centres to form in Canada in the 1960s. NAC features exhibitions by artists from across Canada and around the world. It is completely organized for the benefit of artists and offers opportunities for students to contribute to their programs. NAC not only welcomes student proposals for exhibitions in their Member's Gallery, but it encourages students to participate in events, performances, and fundraisers as equals with practicing professional artists.
NAC has for the past two years included in its featured programming an exhibition of installation work by students in VISA 2F96, Interdisciplinary Workshop.
