Music for Non-majors
Are you a non-major interested in a Music credit?
If you have some music background, the following Ensembles and courses may interest you:
Music Ensembles available for credit at Brock University:
- University Men's Chorus
- University Women's Chorus
- University Wind Ensemble
- Symphony Orchestra credit (external orchestras)
A. General Information
All Brock University music ensembles...
- are open to all Brock University students
- require an audition (in early September)
- run from September to April (during Fall-Winter Session)
B. Choral Ensembles (Men's and Women's Choruses)
To participate in a university choral ensemble, you must...
- be able to sing in tune and read music
- successfully audition (no preparation necessary) - sign up at ThW 140 in September
- register for one of MUSI 1P87 (Women) or 1P88 (Men)
C. Instrumental Ensembles
To participate in a university instrumental ensemble, you must...
- be able to play an instrument and read music
- sign up for an audition (contact Music Dept. for information)
- register for MUSI 1P84 (Wind), 1P86 (Orch. - special permission required from Chair)
Music courses open to Non-majors:
No previous experience required:
- MUSI 1F00 - Music and Popular Culture
- MUSI 1F10 - Introduction to Classical Music
Minimum Royal Conservatory Grade II Rudiments level or equivalent required (Dept. placement test):
- MUSI 1F50 - History of Music from Medieval to Modern Times
- MUSI 1F90 - Theory and Composition I
