Dr Royal has presented papers at the annual meetings of The Society for Music Theory, The Society for Music Perception and Cognition, The International Society for Music Education, and the Canadian University Music Society. He has publications in the following journals: The Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy, Music Perception, The Council for Research in Music Education Bulletin and Psychology of Music.
