David Fancy
David Fancy, Ph. D., Assistant Professor of Dramatic Arts
David Fancy current holds a Chancellor's Chair in Teaching Excellence (2005-2008, with Sue Spearey, Department of English), and teaches courses in twentieth-century dramatic literature, performance analysis, critical theory, theatre and social change, and acting. He is a graduate of the Samuel Beckett Centre for Drama and Theatre Studies, Trinity College, Dublin, and his publications include book chapters and articles on contemporary French theatre, playwright Bernard-Marie Koltès, director Patrice Chéreau, radical democratic performance modes, and performance and social control. He is currently collaborating with Sue Spearey on a book on the pedagogy of critical theory, mindfulness meditation, and embodiment, and is also developing another book-length project involving the application of emerging theory to radical democratic performance modes. David is an experienced artist, with various professional credits as a singer, director, and playwright.
