IASC Program Information for Future Students
The core courses of the Interactive Arts and Science program comprise IASC 1F00 (Introduction to Media Computation), IASC 2F00 (Game Discourses and Criticism), IASC 3F00 (Imagining Immersive Worlds) and IASC 4F00 (Team-based Practicum in Interactive Media Design and Production).
IASC 1F00 is an introductory course in which students acquire information and knowledge in digital and networked environments. Students research and use digital tools for interactivity and multimedia. View course calendar description.
IASC 2F00 explores game play and the factors that make a game both fun and engaging. The course also explores the wider social context of games and why people choose to play some kinds of games over others. View course calendar description.
IASC 3F00 focuses on virtual worlds. Students construct prototypes of virtual worlds, drawing on many of the theories they learned in IASC 2F00. View course calendar description.
IASC 4F00 students work in teams to use all the knowledge and skills they have developed in their courses (related to writing, narrative structure, play mechanics, and the creation and integration of visual and audio elements) to create an interactive multimedia artifact. View course calendar description.
The admissions requirements for the Interactive Arts and Science program are set out by the Faculty of Humanities; see brocku.ca/webcal/undergrad/crit.html. Ontario Secondary School students must have a minimum of six Grade 12U or 12M courses and have completed the Ontario OSSD, or equivalent, to be considered for admission. Grade 12U Subject: English (ENG4U) is required.
For details on admissions and how to apply, see brocku.ca/registrar/admissions.
