Interactive Arts and Science (IASC)

The 2014 IASC graduating class launched innovative new game, DLNR : The Antares Incursion, and took it to two student gaming showcases - Level Up and Digifest.

The Interactive Arts and Science program (IASC), offered through the Centre for Digital Humanities, provides students an opportunity to study and work in:

• Digital media
• Social media
• 3D online environments
• Computer games
• Emerging digital platforms

…And any other environment that combines digital media and interactivity.

IASC is a multi-disciplinary program in which students take a small number of required core courses. Beyond this core students are free to follow different streams. Students interested in graphic design for computer games, for instance, can choose courses shared with the Visual Arts Department. Students interested in the performance aspect of new media can take courses cross listed with Drama and Studies in Arts and Culture. Students who want to write scripts or dialogue for new media can take classes that shared with the English Department.

The IASC program is eager to support individual students in developing their interests in concept art, 3D modeling, narrative for games, game design, level design, interface design, cinematics, game criticism, and media production management.

IASC also partners with the Generator at one. IASC students participate in internships with companies based at the Generator at one and in the Niagara region to get practical experience. Leaders of the Generator at one-based companies also teach within the IASC program in courses such as 3D modeling and animation, visual effects, and live-action filming.

The IASC program combines theory and practice so that students not only look at why and how new media are emerging, they also create their own integrative digital media projects.
