The Interactive Arts and Science program (IASC), offered through the Centre for Digital Humanities, provides students an opportunity to study and work in
New digital media
Social media (such as Facebook, wikis etc)
3D online environments (such as Second Life)
Video games
And any other environment that combines digital media and interactivity.
IASC majors take a small number of required core courses. Beyond this core students are free to follow different streams. If you were interested in graphic design for video games, for instance, you would choose courses that we share with the Visual Arts Department. If you were more interested in the performance aspect of new media you could take courses cross listed with Drama and Studies in Arts and Culture. If you wanted to write scripts or dialogue for new media you could take classes that we share with the English Department.
We also have a close relationship with nGen, the St. Catharines interactive media incubator. Our students do internships with companies based in nGen and in the surrounding area to get practical experience in new digital media. Our program combines theory and practice so that you not only look at why and how new media are emerging, you also get to make your own integrative digital media projects!
