Robert R. Taylor


Robert Taylor is a German historian who teaches courses in that field in addition to courses on twentieth-century Europe. He has a research interest in two topics that fall under the general rubric of industrial/architectural history. Following publicat ion of The Word in Stone: The Role of Architecture in the National Socialist Ideology (University of California Press) and Hohenzollern Berlin: Construction and Reconstruction (Meany), Dr. Taylor has completed a SSHRC-supported monogra ph, The Castles of the Rhine: Rebuilding Medieval Ruins in Modern Germany, which will be published shortly by Wilfrid Laurier University Press. Dr. Taylor's other research interest is the history of the Welland Canals. On this topic, he is col laborating with Roberta Styran, Adjunct Professor of Canadian Studies at Brock, to produce papers, articles, and books. These include a documentary history of the Welland Canals for the Champlain Society, to be published after 1997 by th e University of Toronto Press, and a planned two-volume study of the construction of the canals based on the documentary research already completed for the Champlain Society book.
