Michael Driedger

Michael Driedger is the author of two books -- Obedient Heretics:  Mennonite Identities in Lutheran Hamburg and Altona during the Confessional Age (Ashgate Publishing, 2002) and Zuflucht und Koexistenz:  400 Jahre Mennoniten in Hamburg und Altona  (Mennonitischer Geschictsverein, 2001).  His general area of research is the comparative study of new religious movements around the world from the fifteenth through the eighteenth centuries, but he is also continuing to do research on European Mennonites, with special regard given to their connections with the eighteenth-century Enlightenment.  For the History Department he teaches courses on European intellectual and cultural history before 1850, revolutions in communication, Reformation history, and comparative studies of apocalyptic thought and movements.  For the Programme in Great Books/Liberal Studies he teaches courses on world religions and seventeenth- and eighteenth-century literature.
