Gyllian's personal website

Gyllian Raby joined the Brock faculty in 2001 to teach acting, directing and play writing: skills which she developed during her twenty-year career in professional theatre. She spent a decade as artistic director of Calgary's One Yellow Rabbit Theatre, now a major international touring group whose work is chronicled in Martin Morrow's book, Wild Theatre, and Edmonton's Northern Light Theatre. As a freelance director she worked out west, up north, down east and south of the border, specializing in the development of new works and the adaptation of classics with a diverse range of companies from Theatre Newfoundland Labrador to Cincinnati's Playhouse in the Park and the Shaw Festival Theatre. Gyllian is also a produced playwright, translator and dramaturge. Her collaborations with Ray Bradbury (Something Wicked This Way Comes) and Robert Lepage/Marie Brassard (Polygraph) have toured widely. Her work is known for a vivacity of scale, colour and musical scoring. As a faculty member, Gyllian seeks to bring about university-professional collaborations to further research and development of new works. In 2009, she received a research grant from SSHRC (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Canada) to support her partnership in devising works with youth at Carousel Players, St. Catharines' professional youth theatre; a project that will employ up to seven Brock students and graduates.
