Dr. David Fancy teaches in the Performance and Theatre Praxis Concentrations. He holds a PhD from the Samuel Beckett Centre, Trinity College Dublin, and from that research has published on postcoloniality, French theatre, and phenomenology. David worked extensively in Dublin as a professional singer of cabaret and in various musicals, and now finds time to hum extensively in the shower. He is the recipient of a SSHRC Standard Research Grant and is writing a book on Gilles Deleuze, immanence and the history of the stage actor. David won the Alberta Theatre Projects Emerging playRITES 2008 prize for Khalida, a text that was chosen as an 'outstanding new play' at the 2008 Summerworks festival in Toronto, and featured as one of a handful of texts at the 2009 International Director's Lab at the Lincoln Centre, New York. He has been awarded a Brock Chancellor's Chair for Excellence in Teaching, (2005-08, with Sue Spearey), as well as disABILITIES and Best Practices teaching awards (2009).
