Wondering what are the best courses for you to take next year? Perplexed about life after university? Take the opportunity to start planning the next step in your career while enjoying an evening of pizza and conversation with your fellow Classicists. Brock Classics alumnae Nicola Jago, Curatorial Assistant, Aurora Historical Society and Jennifer Phenix, Sheridan College will speak about how studying Classics helped them in their career path. April 1 @ 7:00 p.m. in IC 335: Department of Classics Research Seminar Series talk on Jewish Hellenistic poetry
Dr. Andrew Faulkner (University of Waterloo) will present a paper entitled "Jewish Hellenistic Verse and the Poetics of Philo Senior." A light reception will follow the talk in the Faculty of Humanities Lounge (IC 306). All are welcome to attend.
 

April 5 @ 5:15 in AS 215: AIA lecture on Lydia
Dr. Christopher Roosevelt (Boston University) will present an illustrated lecture entitled "Homer and Maeonia: Lydia before the Lydians." Complimentary coffee and cookies will follow the talk and discussion. All are welcome to attend.
 

April 28: Special event to celebrate the Niagara Peninsula Society of the AIA's 45th anniversary
The theme of the evening will be "ancient drinking and dining." Tickets (details to be posted soon) will include dinner, a silent auction, and illustrated talks by two members of the Department of Classics:

  • Dr. Allison Glazebrook, "Sympotic Paideia: Sexual Ethics and the Greek Symposium"
  • Dr. Katharine T. von Stackelberg, "Dangerous Dining in Greece and Rome: Drunk, Disorderly, Debauched and...Dead?"

Please note the various seminars and lectures hosted by the Department of Classics at the University at Buffalo, as well as lectures and conferences sponsored by IEMA (Institute for European and Mediterranean Archaeology at the University at Buffalo).

Locations
The Department of Classics is located in the International Centre Building (IC). It is marked #34 on the campus map which you can download here or use the interactive version by clicking on the campus map link at the bottom of this page. This 3-storey grey building is located on Norman Road (accessible from both Glenridge Avenue and St David's Road) between Quarryview Residence and the 573A Glenridge Building. There is pay & display parking available in the lot directly in front of the building as well as in the lot marked EA next to East Academic (#25 on the campus map).
