Introduction

Dr. Yeager-Woodhouse has been a full-time Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Linguistics since 2003. Prior to teaching in the department she enjoyed careers as a Nurse/Nurse Educator, having worked with Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs), in addition to other nursing populations, and as an ESL Listening Coordinator/Instructor in Brock University’s Intensive English Language Program (IELP).

Dr. Yeager-Woodhouse is an active registered member of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), and the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO), as well as a certified member of TESL Ontario.

Teaching

Dr. Yeager-Woodhouse teaches courses in the Applied Linguistics/TESL stream at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Currently, she teaches the following courses:

Undergraduate courses

  • LING 3P91 - Materials and Curriculum Design
  • LING 3P93 - Gender and Language
  • LING 4P82 - Teaching Listening and Speaking in a Subsequent Language 
  • INTC 2P94 - Theories and Models of Intercultural Relations

Graduate courses

  • LING 5P03 – Oral/Aural Skills in TESL: Theory, Research, and Practice

Research

Dr. Yeager-Woodhouse is currently involved in three research projects:
1. Life History Research examining the professional development of ES/EFL teachers over the career lifespan;
2. Sociocultural dimensions associated with academic literacy for First Year University Students in transition;
3. Ethical/sociocultural issues associated with health literacy in adults with intellectual disabilities.

Service

Dr. Yeager-Woodhouse is currently the Chair of the Brock University Faculty Association (BUFA) Status of Women Committee and a member of the BUFA Grievance Committee.
