The Opportunity
Reporting to Executive Director, Alumni & Development, the Director, Development & Donor Relations will provide leadership to aid the growth of the University’s fundraising performance. The incumbent will build Advancement capacity within Advancement and across campus, creating an organization and culture that fosters leadership, initiative, effectiveness and community. Additionally, the incumbent will contribute to the creation of internal and external relations strategies for the transforming image, reputation and standing of Brock University through both campaigns and philanthropic activities.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Developing a compelling case for philanthropic support, conceptualizing an integrated proposal for donors that translates how their philanthropy will support the fulfillment of Brock University’s mission and the prioritized academic plan, and/or any research and teaching dimensions of any proposed project under consideration
• Providing strategic guidance for prospect identification and research, to develop, nurture and steward the University’s prospect pipeline, in order to realize the philanthropic goals of the University
• Identifying principal giving opportunities and coordinating the involvement of the President and other Senior Administrative staff
• Maintaining a Brock University presence through regular contact with alumni, friends, and corporate donors throughout Canada, and provide continuous donor stewardship
• Managing a portfolio of transformational and major gift prospects, at various stages of cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
• Meeting with Deans, current and former professors, alumni, friends and volunteers regularly to identify and prioritize potential major gift prospects
• Coordinating opportunities for Giving staff to participate, and contribute to the overall activities of the broader campus community
• Establishing and coordinating the implementation of a volunteer organization for the University’s campaigns, that will attract and engage a high level of commitment from Canada’s most senior philanthropic leadership

The ideal candidate will have:
• A relevant University degree (e.g. Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations, etc.)
• 10 + years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising and development and proven experience as an innovative leader with exceptional interpersonal, superior writing and verbal communication skills
• Proven track record for securing principal philanthropic gifts from prospect identification, discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
• Successful track record in a senior level major gifts or campaign position in a comprehensive development office in a university or equivalent experience
• Demonstrated experience in project management, strategic donor communications, budget forecasting and revenue analysis
• Strong research and proven proposal writing and presentation skills and a keen eye for detail
• Strong computer skills, including experience with large database management systems
• Demonstrated ability to utilize tact and discretion when handling highly confidential information
• Certified Fund Raising Executive certification (an asset)
• Completed the CAGP-ACPDP’s Advanced Canadian Gift Planning course (preferred)
• Extensive knowledge of university structure, policy, and administrative systems (strongly preferred)
