Reporting to Associate Dean Undergraduate Programs, Goodman School of Business (GSB), the Student Engagement Coordinator develops, promotes, and directs the GSB clubs and organizations to ensure a balanced educational and social environment for GSB students. The incumbent provides guidance and assistance to staff and faculty with regards to student groups, continually developing a community for student outreach and recruitment activities, which expands educational opportunities for all GSB students.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Managing the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of student led programs and quality of life issues, promoting the personal development of a diverse student population
• Representing the GSB in campus-wide and university-wide groups and councils focusing on student issues
• Developing, directing, and evaluating student activities and program operations; compiling and analyzing data related to student participation and program evaluation; developing organizational work processes which facilitate attainment of established program goals and objectives
• Recommending and assisting in administering student budgets including signing authority on all Goodman student club bank accounts; providing guidance as needed in relation to preparing financial statements, allocation of resources, ensuring transparency
• Coordinating and mentoring students in relation to academic business competitions
• Establishing, directing, and maintaining a master calendar of GSB student activities
• Designing and facilitating leadership workshops and retreats for all GSB student clubs; assessing topic needs, developing core material, delivering workshops, when necessary sourcing/recruiting potential speakers, providing guidance on workshop and retreat agendas
• Overseeing the recruitment, hiring, and training of all Executives within the Business Students’ Association and Goodman Student Advisory Board
• Acting as the lead contact for student involvement from recruitment through to graduation, ensure the GSB is recruiting the best academic students
• Developing, maintaining and monitoring a model for funding student initiatives; coordinating with Senior Major Gifts officer to engage recent grads in a faculty-specific class gift program
• Building and fostering transition programs with GSB Alumni
• Liaising with various departments across campus to develop appropriate resources for student and alumni engagement
The ideal candidate will have:
• An undergraduate degree in a related field, preferably in business
• A minimum of a couple years related experience (preferably in a post-secondary university)
• Demonstrated understanding of the student experience
• Solid computer competency, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, web applications and web maintenance, social media and internet search engines
• Proven understanding of university/college recruitment activities and standard industry practices
• Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and collaborate with various stakeholders
• Advanced written, oral and interpersonal communications skills and professional public speaking ability
• Proven ability to coach, mentor, motivate and demonstrate leadership
• Patience, compassion and understanding
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, and the ability to juggle multiple and competing requests/priorities
• Demonstrated ability to research/learn, teach and train information and disseminate knowledge
