The Centre for Pedagogical Innovation (CPI) supports and contributes to the Institutional Teaching and Learning Plan that fosters opportunities for life-long learning that impact our regional, national and global community. The CPI supports vibrant learning experiences in the areas of experiential education, service learning, blended and online learning, new and innovative pedagogies, internationalization, and continuing education. Reporting to the Director of CPI, the Educational Developer assists in fulfilling CPI’s mandate to support, promote and celebrate excellence in teaching and learning at Brock University. The Educational Developer designs and administers programs and services that support pedagogical development in the Brock community, primarily for faculty, part-time instructors and Teaching Assistants.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Designing, administering, delivering and evaluating training/support programs for Teaching Assistants (e.g. TA Day, TA and ITA workshop series, TA certification programs), etc.
• Assisting with faculty and instructor programming in the CPI by collaborating with the Director to develop and manage the creation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of institutional wide CPI programs and services
• Acting as a consultant on teaching and learning issues to the University community, conducting in-class teaching observations of faculty and instructors and follow up meetings for feedback and intervention strategies, including: dossier development, course evaluation feedback, follow up strategies, conducting literature and resources searches, developing evaluation instruments and course evaluations
• Contributing to communications regarding CPI services and programs e.g. manuals, reports and website content
• Conducting Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) delivery, advocacy and support
The ideal candidate will have:
• Post-graduate degree in a relevant program
• Proven ability to implement and deliver workshops related to teaching and learning
• Demonstrated knowledge of current issues in post-secondary educational development, including pedagogical innovation, the use of technology in teaching, instructional development and mentoring, workshop design/evaluation
• Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging issues in the use of technology to enhance teaching and learning
• Proven ability to initiate, develop and implement a variety of complex projects, both short and long term
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated organizational and planning abilities
• Ability to work under pressure and motivate colleagues in improving teaching effectiveness
• Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends
