The Opportunity

Reporting to the Administrative Director, CAECO, the Educational Technologist provides technology support in the development of new online courses and in the redevelopment, enhancement and renewal of existing online courses offered by Centre for Adult Education and Community Outreach, Faculty of Education.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Applying appropriate technological innovations/approaches/solutions that ultimately aid students in learning
• Coaching teams of faculty and subject matter specialists in the use and application of educational technologies
• Mounting courses each term on the SAKAI-based Learning Management System (LMS), ISAAK, and maintaining the archival course masters in each term
• Participating in planning meetings and consultations regarding technology inclusion, making recommendations on software licensing and acquisition, keeping abreast of new technologies, recommending training and support enhancements for faculty and facilitators and generating monthly reports to the Program Committee
• Responding to email and telephone inquiries as well as in-person and Skype-enabled appointments with teams of faculty and subject matter specialists who are developing courses for online delivery and require support
• Providing training for faculty and subject matter specialists in the use of a particular tool as required
• Creating learning objects including but not limited to digital tools, video, audio, etc. to enhance course materials
• Working with online development tools including but not limited to SoftChalk, Camtasia, HTML, transcription software, etc.
• Maintaining workflow and progress charts of course developments and updates in progress
• Troubleshooting start of term and ongoing access issues for learners, facilitators and faculty including but not limited to Sakai updates, repairs of broken/outdated resource links, new material inclusion/replacement requests by faculty
• Organizing the term-to-term repository of courses on Sakai
• Providing report of course section launch status to Administrative Director
• Assisting the Director, Administrative Director and Administrative Assistant with program needs and providing technology based solutions to issues regarding online delivery via ISAAK
• Providing consultation, education and support to the unit regarding new and emerging technologies and systems that impact upon course development, redevelopment and the learning experience for students
• Providing consultation on educational technology applications in other areas of program services including academic advising and program marketing
• Other duties as assigned

The ideal candidate will have:

• Undergraduate degree with extensive coursework in disciplines of Interactive Arts and Sciences, Digital Media, Computer Science, Adult Education or related fields
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, and interpersonal skills including interviewing, presenting and coaching
• Demonstrated organizational, record keeping and problem solving skills and proven ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines
• Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision, take direction and help others realize their technology-enabled vision
• Strong computer skills; including competency with e-mail, internet searches, spreadsheets, word processing, desktop publishing and database experience
• Excellent online development technology skills with working knowledge of HTML, SoftChalk, Camtasia, iMovie, and other software that enhances online delivery as well as familiarity with LMS including Brock’s Sakai-based platform, ISAAK
• Understanding of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the responsibilities of accommodation and universal design
• Demonstrated experience in generating monthly reports of activities
