Temporary Full-Time (12 month contract)

Reporting to the Associate Director, Co-op Programs, the Career Consultant will provide information, advice and guidance to undergraduate and graduate students (domestic and international) through individual consultations, workshops and group work to support and advance employment preparation skills and techniques. The Career Consultant supports students in all 30 Co-op Programs totaling more than 2200 students. Duties will include: reviewing and assisting in the development of student resumes; facilitating interview readiness through one-on-one/group mock interview sessions; providing career development resources to build on individual capabilities and confidence; providing advice on how to overcome employment barriers and developing strategies for effective self-marketing and promotion to potential employers; assisting with researching, developing, facilitating and delivering career related workshops; and co-coordinating events, functions and workshops for Co-op students to promote and increase interaction with employers, in conjunction with other staff.

The successful candidate will have a relevant university degree combined with previous experience in an employment or career advising/counseling capacity or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Your working knowledge of Career Development methods, practices and resources is complemented with your strong workshop development and presentation skills. Your experience includes a thorough understanding of +employer/labour market trends and skills requirements. Excellent organizational, time management, and advanced communication skills are required as is the ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team. Strong computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, database applications, email, internet search engines, PowerPoint) and familiarity with current social media applications are necessary. Previous event co-ordination experience would be considered an asset. Flexibility in work schedule is necessary to accommodate evening workshops and events and the occasional weekend event such as Brock’s Fall and Spring Open Houses and the annual Ontario Universities’ Fair.
