Job Summary

The Facilities Management Department of Brock University invites applications to the following permanent full-time position of:


The successful candidate will work as a member of a team that involves the year-round care and maintenance of Brock University grounds and satellite sites (totalling almost 450 acres). Duties include: winter snow removal, including the use of hand shovels, snow blowers, tractor or dump truck snow removal equipment (involving on-call and irregular hours, including evenings, early mornings and weekends, as necessary); lawn care and turf maintenance (using hand mower and/or tractors, sodding); assistance with planting and maintenance (including digging, weed control, replanting); driving and operating a variety of light and heavy duty vehicles (including tractors, front end loaders) to complete assigned duties; operating many types of hand-held and walk-behind landscape maintenance equipment (including trimmers, blowers, saws, aerators, etc.); ensuring that landscaping equipment is properly and safely operated; and moving and setting-up outdoor furniture and equipment as necessary. In addition, you will assist in the installation and maintenance of various types of hard surface landscape amenities (including paths, walks, patios, parking areas and roads); removal of litter, recycling materials and debris as required. Also requires performance of other related duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or Lead Hand.


Qualifications include: high school diploma, minimum of 2 years related horticultural and construction experience that demonstrates related year-round landscaping and grounds maintenance. A valid Class "G" driver's licence with a clean abstract is to be provided. Knowledge and experience with various grounds maintenance equipment and familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and other pertinent regulations is necessary. Must be able to perform the physical aspects of all grounds maintenance work and willing to work irregular hours as needed. Proven good attendance record.

Working primarily days, 40 hours per week, the current salary range (effective May 1, 2012) is $20.51 per hour and includes comprehensive benefits coverage.
