Job Summary

Reporting to the Library & Media Services Coordinator, the Library Media Assistant performs patron assistance, circulation, media/audio-visual services and clerical duties related to the holdings and services available in the Instructional Resource Centre, Hamilton Campus, Faculty of Education. Duties will include: responding to inquiries; providing information on Library Catalogue Systems, access to materials and other resources; entering, registering, and revising patron information in the library database; monitoring discharged materials and providing appropriate follow up for late returns; arranging photocopier services; ensuring photocopiers are in working order; handling cash; booking, delivering and assisting in maintenance of audio-visual equipment; and re-shelving returned materials.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have completed related post-secondary courses along with previous library experience (circulation and reference assistance) or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Technical knowledge of audio-visual equipment, demonstrated understanding of on-line circulation systems (Millennium On-Line System preferred) and a familiarity with Library of Congress classification system and/or curriculum library materials is also required. Your prior experience includes cash handling and working with photocopiers. The successful candidate will also have proven keyboarding, communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.

Includes one regular morning shift per week, 7:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., one evening shift per week, 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and specific scheduled Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for the months of November, December, March, April and May. Shifts may vary and the successful candidate(s) should be able to work evenings in addition to being available for call-in, sometimes on short notice to replace day and/or evening staff.
