The Opportunity
Reporting to Associate Dean, Faculty of Education, the Admissions/Liaison Officer is the initial
point of contact for prospective students seeking admissions information regarding Faculty of
Education programs. The Admissions/Liaison Officer provides in-depth admissions
counselling to those planning to apply to the Initial Teacher Education Consecutive Program.
The incumbent coordinates Initial Teacher Education Consecutive Program recruitment
activities, the evaluation of applicants’ work experience profiles and serves as the Initial
Teacher Education Program ombudsperson.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Answering general queries via telephone, email and in person regarding all Faculty of
Education programs
• Providing full admission counselling via telephone, electronic mail, and in person to
individuals and small groups interested in applying to the Initial Teacher Education Programs
held at Brock University’s St. Catharines and Hamilton campuses and off campus Ontario
locations at recruitment fairs
• Counselling current students regarding teacher certification requirements and
information required by the Qualifications Evaluation Council of Ontario, the Ontario
Secondary School Teachers’ Federation, and the Ontario College of teachers
• Ensuring current and accurate admissions information for the Initial Teacher Education
Consecutive Program posted on the Faculty’s website
• Preparing content for brochure(s) providing admissions and counselling information
• Coordinating recruitment activities and information presentations at Ontario University
campuses and multi institutional career fairs, and attending relevant recruitment fairs
• Coordinating Brock University open house activities and displays concerning Initial
Teacher Education Consecutive Program
• Providing presentations about Faculty of Education programs to secondary school
guidance counsellors in Ontario
• Assisting with preparation and processing of applications for admission to the program
• Training and coordinating the selection of personnel to evaluate applicants’ work
experience profiles and other pre-service application documentation
• Providing confidential mediation and conflict resolution services to teacher candidates
enrolled in pre-service programs located at the St. Catharines and Hamilton campuses


The ideal candidate will have:
• Bachelor of Education and a couple years of relevant experience and exposure to
teaching in an Elementary or Secondary school
• Proven ability to utilize strong counselling, consultative, collaborative and conflict
resolution skills
• Demonstrated understanding of admission requirements and program knowledge of
Ontario faculties of education programs
• Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including active listening
• Demonstrated project management experience and the ability to effectively manage
multiple projects
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload in a fast-paced
environment with changing deadlines
• Strong judgement, analytical, and problem solving skills
• Solid computer competency including word processing, spreadsheet, database, web
applications and web maintenance, social media, internet search engines
• Ontario Certificate of Qualification to Teaching (an asset)
• Understanding of certification requirements and procedures for those certified outside
Ontario wishing to teach in Ontario (preferred)
• Familiarity with teaching certification programs outside Ontario and Canada (preferred)
