The Opportunity

The Jack and Nora Walker Canadian Centre for Lifespan Development Research (the Centre) is a multidisciplinary collaborative effort dedicated to studying human development across the lifespan, with special strengths in childhood and adolescence. The Centre involves over 60 faculty members representing Social Sciences, Applied Health Sciences, Education, and Humanities, as well as 40 community agencies, who collaborate to investigate psychological, social, health, neurophysiological and educational aspects of life from infancy to old age.

Reporting to the Director and Associate Director, the Knowledge Translation Officer meets with community members, on and off-campus, to communicate information on the variety of research being conducted by the Centre’s members. The Knowledge Translation Officer utilizes knowledge of the Centre’s research to build and maintain research alliances between the community and the Centre. The Knowledge Translation officer will constantly engage with the Centre’s researchers to summarize research activities for a general audience, and make these summaries available to the public and other researchers.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Understanding and communicating the goals and perspectives of both researchers in the Centre, and practitioners in the community
• Expanding the Centre’s links with the community and fostering relationships based on research strengths of the Centre’s members
• Meeting with agencies in the local community, Greater Toronto Area, Ottawa area, as well as at other Universities, to build strong partnerships with the Centre
• Creating and keeping an up-to-date collective report of the Centre’s activities, to summarize research activities for a general audience
• Maintaining the Centre’s website content and promotional materials
• Researching grant opportunities for the Centre, and assisting in the development of knowledge mobilization grant applications for Centre members
• Meeting regularly with Brock’s Development Office to ensure that the Centre continues to be visible both inside and outside of Brock
• Providing administrative assistance to the Director and Associate Director of the Centre as required

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

• A Post-graduate degree in a relevant discipline or an undergraduate degree with a demonstrated research component and/or related experience working on research projects
• Demonstrated experience working or volunteering in community agencies that focus on lifespan development, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
• Proven ability to read and understand scientific literature, including statistical information
• Excellent interpersonal, writing, and presentation skills and proven ability to understand complex material and translate information for both general and specific audiences
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, reliably and take initiative
• Superior public relations skills and ability to develop and maintain promotional materials
• Strong computer proficiency including: website maintenance/content management, Microsoft Office and presentation software
• Strong organization skills and the proven ability to prioritize multiple projects, work flow and timelines
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
