Reporting to the Manager, E-learning, the Educational Technologies Support Assistant provides support to all University Instructors regarding the University’s Learning Management System (LMS), Turnitin, Wikis and related tools.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Providing e-mail, phone and one-on-one LMS Support
• Providing help-desk-style support for instructors and teaching assistants regarding their use of online teaching technologies (e.g. Isaak, Sakai, Turnitin.com, Wikis, iTunes U, Elluminate etc.)
• Troubleshooting issues related to online teaching technologies and provide appropriate solutions
• Approving course, Wiki & Turnitin.com requests by vetting requests to ensure that they reflect official records of teaching assignments and formal requests match otherwise expressed intent
• Monitoring technical approval processes
• Conducting LMS and Turnitin.com workshops and cross campus education/training, designed by the Manager of eLearning on the basic use of LMS and Turnitin.com tools during key periods of the year
• Inputting eLearning initiative course content and audit for accessibility
• Entering and adapting course content from instructors
• Running automated accessibility reports against the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.0 and manually evaluate content for accessibility
• Maintaining online documentation for CPI websites and assisting with the development of web content
• Providing administrative back-up and support
The ideal candidate will have:
• A degree or diploma in Business, Communication/Visual Arts, Education, English, Graphic Design, History or multi-media production, or a related field, combined with appropriate experience
• Demonstrated experience or aptitude for Learning Management Systems and/or web development
• Knowledge and demonstrated ability of educational technology (e.g. Isaak, Sakai, Turnitin.com, Wikis, iTunes U, Elluminate etc.)
• Familiarity with both Macintosh and Windows operating systems
• Basic knowledge of web interfaces and design
• Solid computer competency including word processing, spreadsheet, database, web applications and web maintenance, social media, internet search engines
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with various stakeholders
• Active listening skills and the ability to ask focused questions to elicit needs around the use of technologies
• Strong problem solving with the ability to interpret/troubleshoot issues, determine if the issue is a user or technology issue, and provide appropriate solutions
• Ability to prioritize responsibilities
