Brock University’s academic mission is to nurture and support its faculty and students in the discovery of knowledge through exemplary scholarship, teaching and learning. The Centre for Pedagogical Innovation (CPI) supports and contributes to the Institutional Teaching and Learning Plan that fosters opportunities for life-long learning that impact our regional, national and global community. The CPI supports vibrant classroom experiences in the areas of experiential education, blended and online learning, new and innovative certifications, transdisciplinary, internationalization, and continuing education. Reporting to the Vice-Provost, Teaching and Learning, the Director of CPI provides academic and administrative leadership to the activities that fall within the purview of the CPI, including online learning, service learning, experiential education, educational technology and teaching and learning advancement for faculty, students and instructional staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Advising the Vice-Provost on teaching and learning at Brock
• Managing CPI by coordinating staff, managing the budget, producing an annual report
• Providing leadership to aid CPI in implementing the teaching and learning objectives within Brock 2014 and the Institutional Teaching and Learning Plan
• Developing policy and procedure to support and strengthen the Institutional Teaching and Learning Plan
• Consulting with the University community on opportunities and initiatives to enhance the direction of teaching and learning at Brock
• Supporting the development of courses that utilize alternate modes of delivery and innovation pedagogical strategies
• Supporting the development of experiential education opportunities on campus
• Promoting good teaching practices among faculty, librarians, instructors and TAs by organizing lectures, workshops, seminars, discussion groups and other activities
• Providing assistance to new faculty in developing teaching expertise
• Identifying and cultivating potential award candidates for institutional, provincial and national awards
• Assisting in the preparation and development of teaching dossiers and promoting their use within the institution
• Consulting with Deans, faculty and the Brock Community as to issues and concerns regarding teaching and learning
• Consulting with the wider University community and the Vice-Provost, Teaching and Learning to develop strategies and best practices to facilitate the development and implementation of on-line/e-learning opportunities
• Developing programming and outreach to familiarize faculty members with the integration of technology in teaching
• Serving as an ex-officio member of relevant Senate and administrative committees
• Providing advice on design and construction of new classroom and renovations of existing classrooms
• Establishing and supporting internal partnerships that impact and contribute to teaching and learning, e.g. curriculum review, accessibility, academic integrity, graduate education
• Expanding and enhancing external partnerships that will increase Brock’s reputation as a leader in teaching and learning
• Providing leadership in the development and support of the scholarship of teaching and learning across the institution
• Working collaboratively with faculty members to attract funding for teaching-related research
• Other duties as assigned
The ideal candidate will have:
• Ph.D. or Ed.D in a relevant discipline
• Demonstrated success in progressively more responsible positions within a teaching and learning environment
• Demonstrated record of leadership in educational development at the post-secondary level and excellent teaching at the post-secondary level
• Demonstrated and applied knowledge of current, new and emerging pedagogical theories and practices in educational development in higher education (e.g. evaluation and assessment, principles of adult learning, collaborative learning, student-learning processes, course design etc.)
• Demonstrated knowledge of current, new and emerging issues in the use of technology to enhance learning
• Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
• Proven ability to work with various technologies and align technology with learning and development plans
• Proven ability attracting funding for research and development (an asset)
• Instructional Skills workshop certification (an asset)
• Facilitator development workshop certification (an asset)
