Job Summary

Reporting to the Aboriginal Academic Support Program Coordinator, Aboriginal Student Services, this position assists in the coordination, tracking and promotion of support services and programming to meet Aboriginal student needs. Duties will include: organizing and delivering culturally specific workshops; tailoring academic support sessions for Aboriginal students; monitoring and tracking Aboriginal student use of academic support resources; connecting students to academic, social, and spiritual resources; promoting of programming through networking activities; and developing Aboriginal Student Services relationships throughout the Brock campus. The Aboriginal Academic Support Assistant will participate in Aboriginal outreach and recruitment initiatives within the broader community. Outreach events will include camping activities in the far north. In addition, the Academic Support Assistant will assist in researching Aboriginal funding opportunities and support from government agencies and other organizations and in the preparation of related proposals and reports.


The successful candidate will possess an undergraduate degree (Recreation and Leisure Studies preferred), together with experience working with Aboriginal students within a postsecondary education system in a mentoring/leadership role. Your background and experience has provided you with in-depth knowledge of Aboriginal culture. An accomplished communicator with excellent oral, written and presentation skills, you possess the ability to lead and motivate others and demonstrate a readiness to collaborate and develop relationships. Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills are required together with excellent organizational abilities to manage timelines and deadlines. Proficiency with various computer programs including Word, Excel, Outlook and database applications is required. Experience in data collection and reporting is required.
