Reporting to the Supervisor of Telecommunications Services, the Senior Electronics Technologist will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing a variety of electronic equipment; including telephone, ethernet network, security, access control, UPS, CATV, and CCTV systems. In conjunction with supervisors and senior technicians, the ideal candidate will be responsible for providing solutions to enhance existing systems or alternatives and updating documentation related to enhancements. The position requires the capability to utilize test equipment to verify communications and PBX infrastructure is operating within acceptable (industry or university) standards.
The successful candidate will possess a three year diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology from a CAAT or Institute of Technology with at least 3-5 years of related work experience. The candidate must have working knowledge and experience maintaining Nortel and/or Avaya telecommunications equipment including CS1000M, Survivable Remote Gateway (SRG), Business Continuity Manager (BCM), Call Pilot, and Nuance’s Speech recognition system. Your previous experience should include structured cabling installation using BICSI standards as well as the repair of electronic hardware including the ability to solder. Familiarity with Windows XP/7, Microsoft Office and Visio are required, along with the ability to effectively communicate both written and orally. The individual must possess the ability to work in both a supervised and unsupervised environment; individually, and as part of a team. Excellent customer service and problem solving skills are also required. Other requirements include a valid Ontario driver’s license, occasional heavy lifting, ladder climbing, and rotating on-call duties. Some evening, weekend, and holiday work may be scheduled from time to time.
