Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Mechanical Services, the Mechanical Supervisor provides scheduling, and coordination for mechanical trades and technicians in the day-to-day operation of campus mechanical systems. In addition to directly supervising unionized staff (millwrights/facilities technicians), provides planning and scheduling of work requests ,as well as manages planned, emergency and demand work requests; ensures compliance with health and safety, fire and all other applicable codes including University and departmental policies and procedures (e.g. Zero Energy, Confined Space Entry and Mechanical Utility locates); develops and maintains a Preventive Maintenance for assigned systems; reviews mechanical drawings and specifications for capital project; provides site supervision and direction from a mechanical perspective for Maintenance & Operations work; and assists with budget preparation as related to the mechanical shops and maintenance projects. The Mechanical Supervisor is also responsible for the administration and inspection of contracted mechanical services.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a Mechanical Engineering college diploma or certification in a related trade with several years experience and related technical knowledge or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous supervisory experience in a unionized environment is required. Your experience and background have provided you with in-depth knowledge of applicable health and safety, mechanical, fire and building codes. Excellent communication and human relations skills are essential, together with a strong customer service orientation and sound leadership skills. Computer competency with the ability to work in a variety of maintenance-related programs as well as Microsoft Office software applications (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook) is necessary.
