The Language Monitors will be working with the Summer and other Customized English Language Programs that run concurrently.
The Language Monitors work as a team to provide social, cultural, and workshop classes/activities that occur for French Canadian and international students enrolled in the English as a Second Language (ESL) Programs.
Monitors plan and supervise Monday to Friday 2-hour afternoon workshop classes and activities for students to practice English and to become familiar with St. Catharines and the local area. There are also weekend and Friday evening activities/excursions to various points of interest (Niagara Region and Toronto areas).
Other duties may include, but not limited to, such responsibilities as attendance tracking, research, lesson/activity planning and problem solving.
Language Monitors must be able to work week days (day and evening), weekends and possibly a few hours on the Canada Day holiday (Monday). Hours vary daily and can include working 5-6 days/week, 4-12 hours per day. Weekly limits are usually between 35-40 hours/week.
Successful applicants should have completed at least Year 2 of a relevant undergraduate program. Current and valid First Aid certification is required. Other certifications/training, such as Mental Health, QPR and Safe Talk would be considered an asset. Previous experience with coaching, recreation activities, and working with second language speakers is advantageous.
