• Teaching Simulations: Practice Your Skills Part 1
 (Register online)
Come to a teaching simulation session and in a small group pick an instructional strategy you would like to practice — try it out and receive some feedback. To guide your practice, tips and variations on instructional and pedagogical approaches will be offered.

Reflecting on what you are teaching is an important part of the learning process. Reflection in action (while doing something) and reflection on action (after you have done it) is a skill worthy of development in all disciplines. Join us to learn how you can develop a reflective practice that will benefit you the teacher and your students.

• Writing a Statement of Teaching Philosophy
 (Register online)
Teaching dossiers or portfolios often begin with a statement of teaching philosophy that describes what the teacher believes and values about teaching and learning. In this session we will discuss the purpose of teaching philosophy statements and begin to draft an outline for a philosophy statement that can guide our teaching practice.

Refworks
 
(Register online)
Learn how to help your students manage citations and improve bibliographies with this hands-on session. RefWorks is a web-based bibliographic citation manager that allows you to save and organize citations of journal articles, books, web sites and other sources. Learn how this online tool can automatically generate a bibliography or reference list in commonly used styles like APA and MLA.

Effective Leadership in Team Environments — Working with teams is a given in today’s mega-connected world. Whether you are still in school or transitioning to the workplace, achieving results in team environments — which means figuring out how to maximize the potential of every member — is essential. This workshop focuses on strategies for leading teams effectively. We’ll talk about how to lead within an organizational context, how to resolve conflict and how to create an inclusive environment for today’s diversified workforce.

The Centre for Pedagogical Innovation presents:
Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) for Brock University Teaching Assistants: The ISW is designed to enhance the teaching effectiveness of TAs through teaching practice and feedback in small groups. Participants are required to attend all three days, and will receive a certificate upon completion. Workshop is limited to 20 participants. Graduate Teaching Assistants are invited to apply to Graduate Studies for a bursary to assist with the costs of the ISW (when the certificate has been completed).
