Faculty of Graduate Studies Distinguished Alumni Award

2014 AWARD — NOMINATION DEADLINE JUNE 1

The Faculty of Graduate Studies has established the Distinguished Alumni Award to recognize graduates of Brock’s master’s and doctoral programs for outstanding achievement in and contributions to graduate studies, graduate education or graduate culture, at Brock or elsewhere, that has made a difference to their communities and beyond.

AWARD CRITERIA

1. Nominees must have graduated from Brock University with a master’s or doctoral degree.

2. Nominees must have three years of post-graduate experience.

3. Nominees will demonstrate a commitment to building a thriving and vital community of researchers and scholars at the graduate level — some examples include:
     • advancing graduate program development
     • leading new initiatives for academic and professional development of graduate students
     • creating opportunities to build graduate culture across Faculties
     • opening pathways for collaboration and partnership of faculty and students across institutions
     • being a champion of graduate student research and scholarship to increase internal and external awareness

4. Alumni may nominate themselves.

NOMINATION PROCESS

The Dean of Graduate Studies invites nominations from graduate programs as well as from members of the broader Brock community. The Dean will assemble a selection committee.

Following the selection process, the Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies, will officially notify the award recipient with a letter of congratulations on behalf of the Faculty and an invitation to attend the awards event. A copy of the letter will also be sent to the nominator.

The Faculty of Graduate Studies will provide assistance for travel and accommodation costs for the recipient to attend an event in 2014 at which they will be presented with the award.

Dr. Jill Grose, Director, Centre for Pedagogical Innovation, inaugural recipient of the Faculty of Graduate Studies Distinguished Alumni Award

The award recognizes Jill for her contributions in supporting the professional development of hundreds of graduate students through her leadership in teaching and learning at Brock University.

CALL FOR 2014 NOMINATIONS

The online nomination process includes the following REQUIRED MATERIAL:

1. Nominee/Nominator Agreement Form

2. Letter of Nomination (maximum 500 words) that includes:
     - a summary of nominee’s background
     - a description of how the nominee has contributed to enhancing and developing graduate studies, graduate education and graduate culture

3. An additional Letter of Support (maximum 500 words)
     - please specify reasons for supporting this nomination

4. Nominee’s CV

OPTIONAL MATERIAL

The online submission form offers nominators the option of submitting other supporting materials — if available, you may consider including addition material (PDF format or links) such as information re: special awards/honours received; newspaper clippings that further support the nomination.
