The graduates of our master’s and doctoral programs have been part of the exciting growth in graduate studies at Brock. Alumni can look back on their Brock experience knowing they have contributed to the quality of our research and scholarship activities. Our growing reputation as a centre of excellence in graduate education continues to be measured in a large degree by the success of our alumni.

We invite you to stay connected with the Faculty of Graduate Studies and the Brock community. The Office of Alumni Relations has information on the many ways in which you can continue your affinity with the University and the benefits that are available to graduates.

• Dawn Hall (BSc ’02, PhD ’07) recognized at UBC

• Brock graduate Dr. W. Grant McGimpsey has been named the new vice president for research at Kent State University. McGimpsey earned both a BSc and MSc in Chemistry from Brock University.

• University of Toronto professor Thomas Tieku, a graduate of Brock’s MA in Political Science program, is optimistic about Southern Sudan’s new independence. But that optimism is balanced with the harsh realities of persisting issues in the area. His presentation was part of International Development Week.

Contribute to the achievements of our graduate students

Brock University is a place where promising young scholars and researchers are following their passion for knowledge and discovery. Our graduate students want to make a difference and your support will help them as they look to find new ideas, answers, solutions and processes that will better our lives in many ways.
 
 
Students are grateful for financial assistance. It allows them to devote all of their energies and enthusiasm to their studies and research projects. Donation on the part of alumni is especially esteemed and signals your endorsement of the kind of challenging graduate work under way today. And our graduates - as you will know - turn up everywhere. Your generous support has a direct impact on providing knowledge and leadership to communities in Niagara and across the globe in the form of outstanding scientists, scholars and educators going forward to make their mark on the world.
 
Now is an ideal time to give to the graduate experience and to support more than 1,400 full- and part-time students at Brock. The province has put in place the Ontario Graduate Fellowship Program (OGFP) to make your contributions go further in assisting students with the cost of their graduate education. The OGFP is a matching grant program. That means that for every dollar you donate, the province will contribute a dollar – your investment in our students automatically doubles. Imagine the opportunity we have to help our students given that the province has set aside a total of $2.3 million for Brock to access in matching funds.
 
In addition to OGFP, there are several other opportunities for donors to participate in matching programs that assist graduate students.

Opportunities to help

The Faculty of Graduate Studies works closely with the Office of Development and Donor Relations to raise funds in support of graduate students. Below is a list of matching gift programs:

 

Ontario Graduate Fellowship Program (OGFP):
Brock University received a provincial fund of $2.3 million to match gifts towards graduate-endowed scholarships based on a one-to-one match and a first-come, first-served basis until the ceiling of $2.3 million is fully matched.
 
Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS):
The Ontario government matches gifts for student bursaries on a one-to-one basis to ensure accessibility to post-secondary education for Ontario students with financial need. For each dollar donated to a bursary, the Ontario government will contribute an equal amount. Each Ontario university and college has a ceiling amount that the government will match on annual basis. Brock will match gifts to bursaries on a first-come, first-served basis until the annual ceiling is reached.
 
Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS):
This program is designed to encourage excellence at the master’s and doctoral levels. An OGS is awarded for one academic year; the student receives $10,000 for two consecutive terms or $15,000 for three consecutive terms.  The province contributes two-thirds while, each year, generous donations assist the University in raising its required contribution of one-third.
 
Ontario Graduate Scholarships in Science and Technology (OGSST):
The maximum value of this award is $15,000, or $5,000 per term. The province awards two-thirds (to a maximum of $10,000 annually or $3,333 per term) to an individual student. The University awards the remaining one-third (to a maximum of $5,000 annually or $2,667 per term) through private-sector fundraising. 
 
Matching corporate programs:
As a measure of good corporate citizenship, many companies have programs where they match employee gifts to registered charities. Please check with your company to see if such an opportunity is available.
