Graduate Academic Preparation Program (GAPP)
ESL Services is delighted to announce the start of its Graduate Academic Preparation Program (GAPP). This new intensive eight-week program will be offered each summer beginning July 2013.
The primary focus of GAPP is to prepare international students, whose first language is not English, for the academic demands of graduate and other specialized programs at Brock University. Many students have the language prerequisite for admission to Brock but struggle academically in their graduate studies. GAPP addresses this issue.
GAPP concentrates on the development of academic skills such as the following:
- Critical thinking and synthesizing arguments and ideas
- Researching, referencing and plagiarism
- Academic presentations, discussion and debate
- Development of specialized vocabulary
- Academic note taking
- Research papers and literature reviews
Our program will be invaluable to a number of types of students, including students who plan to pursue graduate work at Brock; visiting scholars who could benefit from a graduate level language program and an academic skills orientation before beginning their work at Brock University; Science without Borders or other exchange students; students pursuing subsequent degrees or specialized certificates; and working professionals who would benefit from an advanced academic preparation program.
By the completion of the eight-week program, students will enter their programs with the confidence, knowledge and skills required to be successful.
