ESL Services

Who We Are

Brock University’s ESL Services has offered English courses to students from all over the world, since 1982. Through a mixture of formal classroom settings, and socio-cultural activities, students are able to learn and gain confidence in their English abilities. Some students wish to improve their English skills in order to advance their studies in their own countries, or for future employment. While, others work to increase their language proficiency before applying for acceptance to North American universities.

What We Do

ESL Services offers four programs that students can choose from:
  • The Intensive English Language Program (IELP) offers three 14-week terms of quality instruction in five skills: reading, listening, writing, speaking and grammar.
  • The Summer English Language Program (SELP) offers a 5-week term in the summer with focus on five skill areas: reading, listening, writing, speaking and grammar. This program is also paired with the Explore Summer Program, which offers French Canadians the opportunity to practice English and explore Niagara.
  • Explore: The Second Language Summer Program is an internationally recognised program supported through the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada and Heritage Canada. This 5-week program offers French-speaking Canadian students (18+) the opportunity to practice their English skills, while also exploring the Niagara Region.
  • The Customized English Language Programs (CELPs) are designed for a wide variety of groups and purposes. The CELPs offered by ESL Services can be tailored in terms of length and purpose to specific group needs.
