This wild plant has rather hairy stems and is 3-4' (0.9-1.2m) in height with bell-shaped flowers, the petals are yellowish of greenish to a dull purplish-brown. The leaves are dark green, thickish, oval and the primary ones have wings that meet and surround the stalk, are paired. The berries are in bunches of 6-8 at each node, dull reddish or orange in colour, egg-shaped to nearly spherical and about 1/2" long. This plant can be found in habitats like rich low woods, bottomlands, open fields, thickets, and on stony slopes.
