Dr. Rodger J. Beatty holds an honors BMus degree in music education (University of Western Ontario), BEd degree (University of Toronto), MEd degree in curriculum and instruction (Queen's University), an AMus diploma - vocal performers (Western Ontario Conservatory of Music) and an EdD degree in curriculum (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto). Prior to his appointment to Brock University in 1994, he taught for 17 years in Ontario elementary schools in Sault Ste. Marie, Prince Edward County and Hastings County.

Dr. Beatty is a past president of the Ontario Music Educators' Association, Canadian Music Educators' Association, and Choirs Ontario. He currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Music Educators' Association and the Board of Directors of Canadian Music Industry Education Committee.
