Centre for Adult Education and Community Outreach

The Centre for Adult Education and Community Outreach (CAECO) specializes in a field of scholarship and practice that is becoming more and more important in today’s society.

Business, industry, health care, social services, human resources, government, financial services and manufacturing require qualified adult educators to teach in their workplaces.

With the growing emphasis on lifelong learning in our global economy, public and private post-secondary institutions are seeing more and more mature students filling their classrooms and taking courses online. These institutions need instructors who have the knowledge and skill set to facilitate adult learning.

Our record of quality programming
CAECO students are involved in one of the longest-running adult education degree and certificate programs in the province. The BEd in Adult Education is unique in Ontario as it offers both first and subsequent degree options.
The Adult Education courses are taken on a part-time basis with the flexibility of studying online or in a classroom of 10 to 12 people in locations across the province.

We have very dedicated learners who pursue our programs to realize specific academic, professional and personal goals. For some, we offer them the chance to receive a university education that they felt had eluded them. For others, our programs take them in exciting new career directions. And for many more, graduating with our degree or certificate moves them forward in their professional lives.

We have more to celebrate when you consider our contributions to advancing the world of knowledge and practice in the field of adult education.

The CAECO experience
• Quality of curriculum – comprehensive, relevant and engaging
We have a proven track record for offering core courses that address all facets of adult education – theories, practice, contexts, instructional design, delivery methods, leadership, gender issues, and power relationships.
• Access and flexibility of programs – the right fit
Our learners are very busy adults who lead complex lives in which they balance studies with jobs and family commitments. They have a choice of part-time studies online or as part of a classroom experience at 18 sites across Ontario.
• Understanding adult learners – we know what you require
We’ve structured our programs with attention to the characteristics of adult learners. Adults are motivated to realize specific goals. They draw from a multitude of life and work experiences making them dedicated learners. They are goal-oriented and bring a highly practical sensibility to the task of enhancing their knowledge base.
• Learning from the best – facilitators lead the way
One of the strengths of our degree and certificate program is the calibre of our Adult Education Facilitators. Along with outstanding professional credentials, graduate degrees and years of experience in adult education, many CAECO facilitators are graduates of our program – they know firsthand how your studies will make a difference to you.
