Program Information


The Master of Education (MEd) degree program (see the Program Guide) at Brock University is designed to improve the professional competence of practitioners and researchers. Candidates work with their assigned program consultant to choose courses in one of four Fields of Specialization: Administration and Leadership in Education, Educational Inquiry, Social and Cultural Contexts of Education, and Teaching, Learning, and Development.

For full-time students completing the 10 course and culminating seminar route, the program is normally a three-term or one-year program. For full-time students, 7 course and the major research paper route normally spans a three-term or one-year period and 5 course and thesis completion requires approximately a two year period. 

Students have the choice of field of specialization according to the Graduate Calendar in which they began their studies. Students wishing to change specializations or alter the completion pathways, or interrupt studies must notify  the Faculty of Education, Graduate Studies Department as well as Brock University, Faculty of Graduate Studies

Degree Completion Pathways


Pathway 1: Culminating Seminar

  • 10 half-course credits required:
  • Field of Specialization Requirements: Core course(s) and Electives
  • Educ 5P92 An Introduction to Educational Research
  • EDUC 5Q97 Culminating Seminar in Educational Studies

OR

Pathway 2: Major Research Paper

  • 7 half-course credits and a Major Research Paper 3 half-credits required;
  • Field of Specialization Requirements: Core course(s) and Electives
  • Educ 5P92 An Introduction to Educational Research
  • EDUC 5P91 Major Research Paper in Educational Studies

OR

Pathway 3: Thesis

  • 5 half-course credits and Thesis 5 credits (proposal and approval required):
  • Field of Specialization Requirements: Core course(s) and Electives
  • Educ 5P92 An Introduction to Educational Research
  • EDUC 5F95 Thesis in Educational Studies
  • Full-time students must register for a non-credit graduate seminar (EDUC 5N99) in each Fall term of full-time studies
