Place yourself into the future. Imagine that the month is February,
the year is 2010, and Vancouver, BC is finally about to host the
Winter Olympic Games. Kenji and Yumi Miagi, of Tokyo, Japan, have
been anticipating their trip to Vancouver to attend the Winter Games
for five years, and at last, their adventure has arrived.
It should be no surprise that Kenji and Yumi are tremendously excited.
On day two of their trip, they have tickets for the Canada versus
USA Ice Hockey game. They both became big hockey fans since watching
the 2002 Salt Lake City Games, when they cheered team Canada on
to an Olympic Hockey Gold Medal. They also have tickets for the
Women’s Alpine Skiing Downhill race, which will be held in Whistler
on day three of their trip. On day four they must, unfortunately,
fly back to Japan, but not before they get a chance to spend the
day touring around Vancouver.
Kenji and Yumi have budgeted $1700.00 CDN for their trip. This
amount excludes venue and flight fees, since they purchased all
their tickets well in advance. One of your jobs, as you work through
this trail, is to maintain a running total of all their costs.
At the end of their trip, you will discover whether or not Kenji
and Yumi have budgeted enough money.
