2012 - 2013 Cheerleading Tryouts
Date: Wednesday September 5th
Time: 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm
Place: Bob Davis Gymnasium
Cost: $25.00 Varsity Tryout fee must be paid upon arrival from all athletes (including returning athletes)
Teams: This year we will be having a Varsity Team (24 athletes - Level 6) and a Junior Varisty Team (20 athletes - Level 4) -- BOTH teams will be competitive
Tryouts are open to the following individuals:
* Those presently attending Brock;
* Those who have applied to Brock (from High School) for the Fall and have a valid student number;
* Those who are transferring to Brock from another University/College for the Fall and have a valid student number
Our tryouts consist of stunting, tumbling and conditioning drills (exactly what we do at each practice). We are not a dance squad. You do not have to come with anything prepared; we will teach you all you need to do for the tryout. Be prepared to work harder than you thought possible and please bring a towel.
We do not have a height or weight requirement however you must come into the tryout in top physical shape if you hope to earn a spot on the team. We are looking for athletic people; not necessarily former cheerleaders. Our strongest recruits are former gymnasts. All team members will be placed on a strength training and cardio program which will be monitored over the course of the school year.
Gymnastic experience is most definitely expected of our team. The basic gymnastic skill we are looking for is a solid back handspring without assistance.
If you are interested in trying out for the team please contact Head Coach Tara Savoie directly via email at email@example.com
If chosen for the team, cheerleaders are required to fulfill their responsibilities as a representative for Brock University. Practices run through the summer and the season is complete by the first week of April. Cheerleaders must be willing to possibly give up their Fall, Spring, Winter and Holiday breaks to cover events scheduled by the coaching staff. As well, Brock Cheerleaders may not coach/cheer for any other team/program as team members are expected to possess good time management skills in order to handle both their academic workload and cheerleading commitments simultaneously and successfully.
