As part of CCOVI’s outreach to the grape and wine industry Belinda Kemp, senior scientist in oenology, has initiated a sparkling wine networking opportunity for Ontario’s sparkling wine producers.
First up is a closed session for sparkling winemakers only – an opportunity to openly discuss the regions sparkling wine production, issues and latest research. Endorsed by the VQA, “Fizz Club” is not just about faults (although there will be some discussion around this) but will be about tasting, sharing and exchanging straight-forward advice on all stages of production. Belinda will present the latest advances in technology and ingredients available for production of sparkling wine, tirage and dosage issues, etc. This inaugural Fizz Club will give winemakers an opportunity to taste base wines as well as latest vintages on current. This will be the first time the Ontario sparkling industry will have the opportunity to taste and discuss each other’s base wines in an open discussion with other winemakers.
Further sessions and symposiums are being developed. Some will be for sparkling wine producers only but other sessions may include all producers as well as wine educators and writers.
