"If son is indeed the soul of Cuba, then Sierra Maestra are the heartbeat at the center of that soul." – World Music Central (USA)
Named after the birthplace of son, Sierra Maestra is the band that revived the traditional dance music of Cuba. Son combines the Spanish cancion and guitar with African rhythms and percussion of Bantu origin. In 1995, tres player Juan de Marcos Gonzalez conceived the idea that led to the recording of the famous Buena Vista Social Club, on which four members of Sierra Maestra performed. Their infectious grooves and Cuban rhythms will have you dancing in the aisle.
