Calgary mayor makes stop at Brock for Congress panel

Calgary’s Mayor Naheed Nenshi stopped by Congress at Brock today to weigh in on the hypothetical question of, “if mayors ruled the world?” His appearance was part of a panel that also featured Alan Broadbent, chairman and founder of Maytree foundation; Christopher Hume, Toronto Star urban affairs reporter; Andrew Sancton, professor of political science, Western University; as well as American political theorist and author Benjamin Barber.

Mohammed lives in Yarmouk, Syria, one of tens of thousands caught up in brutal civil war. His losses are unfathomable: his mother and sister dead from a rocket that ripped their humble house apart; two other sisters injured; a future threatened by the brutality of war and hunger.

Canada’s largest academic gathering officially kicked off on Friday night in Niagara at an evening reception at Brock’s Rodman Hall Art Centre in downtown St. Catharines. Organized by the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences, Congress brings together more than 8,500 scholars, students and policy-makers to share ideas and shape the Canada of tomorrow.
