Brock mourns loss of honorary degree recipient and friend of the University

James Stewart, the author, musician and professor emeritus of mathematics, who received an honorary degree from Brock University at spring Convocation in 2011 has passed away. Stewart, a long-time friend of the University, was recognized with an honoray degree in 2011 for his outstanding contributions to mathematics education, architecture and music.

At Thursday’s two Convocation ceremonies for the Faculty of Social Sciences, more than 900 Brock students received their degrees and certificates from the University. Thursday’s ceremonies marked the third day of this week’s five-day Convocation celebrations. Brock Chancellor Ned Goodman made his first Convocation appearance of the week welcoming guests and their families.

Close to 3,700 students will graduate this week at Brock’s 2014 Spring Convocation, which takes place over nine ceremonies from Tuesday, June 3, to Saturday, June 7. All ceremonies will be held in the Walker Complex in the Ian D. Beddis gymnasium. An outdoor reception for graduates, family members and guests will be held after each ceremony. Tickets are not required. All guests are welcome.
